LG has launched its G Pro 2 in Korea today. This is the successor to the widely praised LG G Pro which was crowned 'best smartphone of MWC 2013' just over a year ago. Headline features of the LG G Pro 2 include a 5.9-inch 1080p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM. The LG G Pro 2 also has upgraded imaging hardware meaning it can shoot 4K video and offers snappers 'Magic Focus', a Lytro-like post-shooting focus shifting ability.

LG are particularly proud of the G Pro 2's very slim bezels. We are told that it has "an industry-leading screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2 percent". That bezel is as small as 3.3mm. The overall dimensions of this 5.9-inch screened smartphone are 157.9 x 81.9 x 8.3mm and it weighs in at 172g. For your multimedia enjoyment the sound quality on offer is also said to have been improved with more bass and is up to 30 per cent louder than its predecessor.

The LG G Pro 2 is no slouch in the imaging department and offers a main camera with 13MP and OIS+, to help reduce signs of camera shake in your snaps. LG notes that both the lens sizes, sensor sizes and sensor sensitivity have increased in this update to last year's G Pro model. Headline capabilities include the ability to shoot 4K videos or even 120fps HD videos with slo-mo effects. The camera also boasts 'Magic Focus' as outlined above and can take bursts of 20 photos with animation options. Flash can be tweaked to be more 'natural' with choice of colour temperatures and there's even a selfie flash function.

Looking at software, the LG 'Knock On' unlock feature has been expanded to become 'Knock Code'. "Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers' mobile lives," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features." Now users have a more secure, quick and easy way to power on and unlock their mobile "using one of 86,367 'knock' combinations".

Two other interesting software features include; a 'Mini View' mode to shrink the display panel area used by the system - to aid one-handed operation, and a 'Dual Browser' mode to offer split screen web browsing.

We don't yet have information about this smartphone's availability outside Korea but are sure we will find out more at MWC soon.

Okay I'll bite. What's with the image showing the smaller rear screen in place of the camera and controls? No mention of it in the article as far as I can see?

Its a cover with a hole in it, similar to the ones samsung have.
I'm liking the additions they did with their camera especially the 120fps HD slow mo effects.

Actually I think he mean the quick window case. It's not the back of the phone, it's the front with a flipbook style case with a window in is. The phone detects when the case is closed and you can get it to just activate the small section of screen viewable through the small window.

Samsung have something similar I believe.
