LG found that it had a hit on its hands when debuted its first "Chocolate" phones in 2006 (the KG800 in Europe and the VX8500 in the US), and it's no surprise to see that there will soon be a successor.

The second-generation Chocolate phone, model number BL40, has officially been unveiled today and it's every bit as sexy as the original, if not more.

The handset retains the glossy finish synonymous to LG's Chocolate range, as well as the so-called "iconic red highlights".

New to the second-gen handset is a 4in screen with a 21:9 ultra-wide aspect ratio that delivers an 800x345 resolution - it has the makings of a useful portable media player, we reckon, and a width of 800 pixels should make web browsing far easier on the eye.

There's a five megapixel camera at the rear, and though further details remain slim, we should be seeing the handset in stores this September.

Where does the chocolate fit in?
It looks like an ipod nano with a bigger screen. I don't like ipods…………………
Chocolate phone? Surely that'll give you a sticky ear?
Aside from the red highlights it looks a lot like my touch screen Samsung MP3/MP4 player (glossy bits 'n all).
Looks like every other touch screen phone coming out. *sigh*

A phone just isn’t right without some proper hardware buttons you can feel and press. There are some great mobile games which just aren’t any fun without a D pad, not to mention it becomes annoying when you have to move your thumb up and down your whole phone, it’s quicker and easier to have a D pad.

I cant wait until people become fed up this “my phone is completly touch screen and look at how big this screen is” nonsense.

I think the Xperia X1 got a right balance between touchscreen and D pad.
