Move over James Bond, real remote control is here

Ok, so we might not be able to flip open a Nokia and then career around the car park in our BMWs whilst laying the back seat, but Audi are certainly taking a step in that direction.

The snappily named Audi Mobile Device is a bit of concept kit that Audi have been working on, taking the integration of Bluetooth and iPod connections etc, that bit further.

How we interact with our cars has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years. From remote central locking being de rigeurto the inclusion of iPod connectors, built in Bluetooth and integrated sat nav, manufacturers are looking at ways of making the devices we use outside of the car serve more functions or have more relevance once we're inside the car.

And that's where Audi are coming from with the Audio Mobile Device. It's a mobile phone... but it's also an MP3 player, a keyless entry system and even has a function to get the car warmed up whilst you finish off that last slice of toast indoors on a frosty morning.

But more than that, it's an interface for the car's sat nav system, it can display images sent to the device from the car's onboard cameras if there's someone lurking around and if the tea leaf does nab your motor, you can track it through the device too.

With WiFi and 3G connectivity, you're pretty much sorted when it comes to communicating not only with other people but with your car too. Now, if they can get the car talking in a clipped English accent and supply me a leather jacket and mass of chest hair, I'll be able to relive those childhood Knight Rider fantasies...
