TOSHIBA’S PREMIUM MODEL HD DVD PLAYER ARRIVES IN THE UK

• Much-anticipated HD-XE1 available to buy now
• 1080p available on UK HD DVD player for the first time
• Latest HDMI connectivity also adds to outstanding image quality and colour vibrancy

14 March 2007 - Following the launch of the first ever standalone HD DVD player in December 2006, Toshiba today announces the availability of the HD-XE1 step-up model in the UK.

The HD-XE1 offers a number of additional features to those currently included within the previously released HD-E1 HD DVD model. While retaining the trademark sleek black design, the HD-XE1 also includes full 1080p playback, the latest HDMI connectivity and 5.1 analogue output – making it the perfect purchase for home cinema enthusiasts looking for the complete HD DVD experience.

The arrival of HD DVD has been very warmly received by consumers and specialist media alike. The excellent features and affordability of the HD-E1 have both been well reported in recent months, resulting in healthy demand from consumers for a 1080p equivalent to be introduced. The HD-XE1 is available immediately for around £649.99 – making it by far the most affordable 1080p player on the market to date.

Combined with updated HDMI connectivity, 1080p support brings an extra dimension to the HD-XE1. 1080p output offers the best quality HD picture available, while the Deep Colour technology featured in the improved HDMI connectivity provides a colour palette so rich it surpasses the viewing capability of the human eye. The addition of 5.1 analogue support to compliment Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD also ensures compatibility with existing analogue sound systems – eradicating the need for a digital upgrade and allowing the HD-XE1 to fit seamlessly into practically any home surround system.

Furthermore, the HD-XE1 also offers HD quality analogue picture processing. Four times over-sampling 297MHz/12 BIT Video DAC provides high definition video processing via an analogue output – ideal for both high-end front projectors and high definition panels lacking multiple HDMI inputs.

“HD DVD has attracted a number of supporters since launch,” said Olivier van Wynendaele, Deputy General Manager, HD DVD, Toshiba Europe. “In combining an incredible HD experience with unrivalled value-for-money, the format is well on course to establishing itself as the long-term successor to DVD. Consumer reaction to the HD-E1 has been overwhelmingly positive, and demand for a 1080p player from early adopters has been huge. In adding 1080p support to the range, we’re offering a complete HD solution across the board – dependent on their own needs, consumers are able to pick a HD player to suit them, comfortable in the knowledge that it will offer market-leading value for money.”

The HD-XE1 comes to market just as studios are announcing the latest wave of titles available on the HD DVD format. With heavyweight studio support from the likes of Warner Bros, Universal and Paramount, there is no shortage of content available. To date, over 95 titles have been announced for release, with plenty more to come before the summer.

nice, but like most people, think I will wait until dual format players come out.
