Having applied for membership of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) last month, Toshiba has used the IFA exhibition in Berlin as the location to launch its first ever standalone Blu-ray player - the Toshiba BDX2000.
Toshiba states that the launch "underscores Toshiba's commitment to high definition entertainment", and the player itself has all the right credentials - including support for 1080p full-HD playback at 24fps, BD Live Profile 2.0, and both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio.
The BDX2000 will upscale your standard-def movies, and it'll playback DivX and AVCHD formats, too. The player's front face is covered in a smoke-mirrored front panel, flipping down to reveal its primary functions.
It'll first appear in US stores in November priced at $250, followed by a UK launch in December. And no, this product does not play HD DVD discs, says Toshiba.
