The Trekkie within can't help but fall in love with gadgets inspired by the Star Trek universe, and this one's no exception.
It's called the Tricorder PMP-09, and it's developed by the folks at AmeralisGrafx.com. The unit, styled to look like a Star Trek Tricorder, acts as a portable media player and scores high on any true geekometer.
It might not help in medical scenarios, and it might be useless at scanning nearby areas, but it does a decent job of playing back media. The Tricorder PMP-09 sports a 2.8in display and is able to playback AVI or MP4 video, JPEG or BMP images and MP3 or WAV audio. Battery life is quoted at a reasonable 12 hours of music playback or four hours of video.
When you're not actually using it for media purposes, you can show off to your mates (preferably the Trekkie ones) with 12 built-in LCARS interfaces - they'll run in a loop and make unmistakable Star Trek sounds. The Tricorder will be available in Starfleet, Borg, Workbee, Trio, Medical and Marine skins, with pricing starting at $349.99.
