Sky has announced that it will replace an estimated 90,000 faulty Sky+HD boxes over the coming months.
The faulty units, identified as an early batch from manufacturer Pace, are said to pose no health risk and can be used as normal until replaced. Sky claims the problem lies with internal cabling not being up to its standards, and the broadcaster will be issuing free replacements to all customers affected.
In order to check if your box is subject to a replacement, visit the System Details menu by navigating through Services and System Setup on your Sky remote control. Sky identifies the faulty units as Pace 9F3001, 9F3002, 9F3003 and 9F3004.
Sky is in the process of calling affected customers to arrange for engineers to install replacement boxes, and will be offering three months' free subscription to its HD pack to make up for any inconvenience.
