Visitors to Canon’s IBC stand (11.431) are being teased with a mock-up of an HDV camcorder kept out of reach in a Perspex box.
No information is available on the stand about the mock-up which has the same body shape as Canon’s XL-series of standard definition interchangeable-lens MiniDV camcorders.
Canon fans have been hoping that the company’s late entry into HDV would be made up for by a spectacular features list on which interchangeable lenses would certainly figure. However, what many are hoping for in addition is a progressive-scan, film-look capability.
Company representatives are refusing to comment about that – or any other features – although all may be revealed this Thursday (September 15) when a formal launch and full specs are likely to be announced.
Hopefully, Canon will at the same time unveil a small form-factor HDV model priced to take on Sony’s HDR-HC1. If not then the company is set to miss out on the higher volume end of the HDV market, as well as having turned up late to the prosumer party.
