October 2016, London: Commuters in central London were greeted with a surprise new landmark yesterday as EE, exclusive direct network partner, dropped a giant Google location pin at London’s iconic Marble Arch. The move is designed to celebrate the UK launch of Pixel and Pixel XL phones by Google going on sale in EE stores nationwide today.
The pin, which is nearly 700* times bigger than a Google map pin and taller than a double decker London bus, marks the arrival of the much-anticipated handsets in the UK, with the local Marble Arch and EE stores nationwide set to sell thousands of the new handsets in the first week. The store opened an hour early (8.00GMT) this morning to enable customers to get their hands on the new models.
EE is the exclusive direct UK network partner forPixel and Pixel XL, the first phones by Google.
Pixel and Pixel XL are compatible with EE’s 4G+ LTE-A Cat 9 network which means they are faster on EE than on any other UK network. Only on EE will customers also get WiFi Calling allowing them to call and text in more places across the UK, as well as 4G Calling, so they can continue to download at full 4G speeds whilst on the phone.
Pixel and Pixel XL are available to pre-order today from EE on a range of price plans. Pixel is free on a £50.99 a month, 24 month 4GEE plan, which comes with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 10GB of mobile data a month for existing customers. Pixel XL is also available free on a £55.99 a month, 24 month plan, and comes with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 10GB of mobile data a month for existing customers. 4GEE Plan customers receive unlimited minutes, texts and 500MB of data a month for use abroad in the EU. Alternatively, for just £5 per month more, customers can get Pixel and Pixel XL on 4GEE Max plans, giving them access to the UK’s fastest 4G speeds, and inclusive access to the BT Sport App for the duration of the plan. What’s more, customers can use their plan’s call, text and data allowance to ‘roam like home’ when abroad in the EU. Customers who pre-order before October 20will receive a £50 Google Play voucher they can use to purchase content from the Google Play store.
Pixel and Pixel XL will be available to consumer and business customers.
