Sky joins with leading brands to
help
customers tackle climate change
April 23, 2007 - Sky is one of eight leading UK brands which are today joining with Tony Blair to unveil We're in this Together, a new campaign to provide customers with products and services that make it easier to reduce CO2 emissions.
To make it simple for people to use less energy and cut household bills, Sky is introducing smarter technology that automatically switches inactive Sky HD and Sky+ boxes into standby overnight. Two million customers will receive the new feature in the next few months.
When the annual savings are added together, this new feature could cut carbon emissions by 32,000 tonnes a year. That's equivalent to saving enough energy to light all the homes in Aberdeen or Nottingham for a year.

"Top brands are coming forward
and working
with customers to make a difference. We want to send a message that
every single person can find easy ways to save energy in the home.
"We're connecting customers to smarter technology that helps you use less power. Remembering to switch your Sky box to standby cuts energy use and save money. In case you forget, we've designed a better box that puts itself to sleep when you're not using it."

We're in this Together is another step in Sky's drive to reduce its impact on the environment. As well as making its products more efficient, Sky was the first major media company in the world to become carbon neutral.
Other companies backing We're in this Together are B&Q, Barclaycard, British Gas, HSBC, Marks & Spencer, O2, Royal & SunAlliance and Tesco.
In addition to the Prime Minister, the initiative has the support of the Secretary of State for the Environment, The Climate Group, the National Consumer Council, the Energy Saving Trust and The Church of England.
