Aimed at preserving Notting Hill's rich and diverse artistic heritage, the festival provides a deserved platform for the area’s past and present music and cultural history.

Other sponsors and local patrons for Portobello Live 2016 include Mick Jones (the Clash), actress Anna Chancellor (Notting Hill), film director Kevin Allen (Twin Town, Under Milk Wood) and Don Letts (B.A.D., DJ, filmmaker and author) who have guaranteed their ongoing support for Portobello Live!.

Mick Jones The  Clash promotes the event

‘Not only is it great to be working alongside some of the amazing people and organisations who consider West London home; these important collaborations have presented Portobello Live! with the opportunity to expand and develop, as well as giving it greater visibility in the community,’ says Portobello Live! promoter, Micky P.

This year’s Portobello Live! opens with a huge group singalong. Audience members will be invited to join five local choirs in a celebration of punk rock’s 40th anniversary.

The punk theme runs through Portobello Live! as the UK’s groundbreaking movement reaches a 40-year milestone. West London was an important backdrop to punk, and there will be performances and panel discussions from key players in the early scene.

The spoken word programme will feature 60 Years of Howl, as a group reading of Alan Ginsberg’s classic beat poem by ‘man and machine’ will create a unique mix of classic reading and new media interpretation.

Also new this year are workshops offering steel pan tuition and masterclasses in sound sculpture and moving image, which will then be performed live at the festival.

Venues are all within walking distance and include Mode, Acklam Village, the Elgin, the Cow, Mau Mau, Dock Kitchen, the Paradise and the KPH, with in store performances at Rough Trade. New this year are stages commemorating local rock legend Alan Wass and People’s Sound reggae record store owner Daddy Vego, plus a stage featuring an under 18s competition and showcase.

Wristbands for Portobello Live! are available now at https://www.musicglue.com/portobello-live/. They can also be purchased at Rough Trade, 130 Talbot Road W11.
