Creative reveals Zen Vision:M

Creative Zen Vision:M Features Dazzling Colour Screen and Capacity for up to 120 Hours of Video, Thousands of Digital Photos or up to 15,000 Songs

London, UK – December 8th 2005 – Creative (Nasdaq: CREAF) the worldwide leader in digital entertainment products for the personal computer and the Internet, today introduced the Zen Vision:M, a cutting-edge 30GB video player, photo viewer and MP3 player. Designed with a stunning, 2.5-inch, high-resolution 262,144 colour LCD screen, the Zen Vision:M displays rich, vibrant digital video and photos, full-colour menus and album art. The Zen Vision:M will be available in gorgeous high-gloss black, white, blue, green or pink.

“When people see the Zen Vision:M, they tell us it’s incredibly cool,” said Sim Wong Hoo, chairman and CEO of Creative. “We designed the Zen Vision:M with its mesmerising 256K colour screen to display four times the colour of competing portable video players, and to provide incredible battery life for video playback. Plus, we offer people the freedom to choose their video in a variety of different formats, and to get subscription music or download tracks from a number of different sites on their player.”

The Zen Vision:M carries up to 15,000 songs, and supports music subscription services and downloads from online music stores. Embedded album art is also displayed on the screen, and the rechargeable battery provides up to 15 hours of music playback and up to four hours of video playback.

Looks great as far as I'm concerned. Nice to see companies putting more effort into the design. Good AV codecs too. Will it record in .wav through the mic, at at least 44/16bit wav?

And just blatantly copying their biggest rival?
Hey guys, we can copy an interface!
I'm sure it's very good feature-wise, and probably does a lot of things the iPod doesn't, but whereas Creative try to address the features of the player itself, they largely ignore the far more important aspects of what makes the iPod successful. If you need a clue as to what this is, go to apple.com and see what the label for the section of the site dedicated to the iPod is says.

Until Creative can offer a true full solution for everything the iPod does with iTunes, it's still the poor-man's alternative.
