With everyone glued to their TVs for the World Cup, LG is offering tips to help Brits perfect their viewing experience and optimise their home TV set-up:

Viewing the Footy

50% of the LG range have Freeview HD built in meaning die-hard footy fans can watch the rest of the World Cup in stunning HD – subscription free and without any contract.  With five time better picture quality than standard definition Freeview, an LG HDTV is a great start to creating that ultimate match viewing experience.

However, for that next level, some LG TVs have a number of great viewing modes to really enhance the football viewing experience.  LG TVs equipped with TruMotion will reduce motion blur and picture flicker to create a more superior natural picture.  Alternatively, HDTVs also come equipped with three AV modes preset to optimise picture and sound settings based on specific content: cinema, sports and gaming.  Sports Mode takes you closer to the action in South Africa by emphasising the TVs main colours and reducing motion blur, meaning green pitches are more vibrantly green and defined, making sure every blade of grass to every England player racing down the pitch is clearly captured.

TV Positioning

Finding the right screen size can greatly enhance your footy viewing experience – making the difference between seeing Rooney score the game’s winning goal or squinting at a blurry screen. Room size, distance from the screen, placement height and viewing angle can all really make the difference in feeling part of the action.  In general, a distance of three to five times the distance of the diagonal screen dimension of your screen will do the trick - for example, if you have a 32” TV, sit yourself between 96 inches (8ft) to 160 inches (13ft) from your set.

Height is also very important. The centre of the TV should ideally be at your eye-level when you’re seated.  What you’re aiming for is to figure out how high the TV must sit for you to be viewing the set dead centre. This will improve the TV’s perception of size and quality, making the content of the TV appear larger in size – which is always good when you want to feel a part of the action and provide your guests with the best possible experience.  Wall mounting your set is an great way of optimising the position of your TV.  LG’s LED TVs are perfect for mounting as their ultra slim design will make the TV look like a window directly look into the action in South Africa!

Similar to watching the footy in a stadium, viewing angle of the TV is also key – but not with LG LED TVs.  The optimal viewing angle for LG LED TV is up to 178 degrees, meaning friends and family watching the World Cup can sit nearly anywhere in relation to the front of the screen and still see all the action

Lighting

Lighting in your TV room can be an issue given that no die-hard football fan wants to squint to see England in action.  This isn’t a problem with LG TVs equipped with Intelligent Sensor technology which automatically optimise the picture quality based on the lighting in the room.  So, glare will be reduced in darkness and brightness will be increased for afternoon games.  Additionally, LED TVs are best for bright viewing conditions and plasmas for dark ones, meaning you can get an LG TV that best suits your preferred football viewing environment.

Sound

Annoyed by the hum of the vuvuzela?  Not problem.  LG’s Clear Voice audio technology allows you to individually amplify the commentary from the background sound according to your preference, meaning you can spend more time listening to Guy Mowbray’s commentating than the blowing of the horns.

Sometimes being a die-hard football fan can be difficult when ordinary life beckons: nagging partners, crying kids and constantly ringing mobile phones.  Sometimes, those around you might not want to watch or hear the footy (hard to believe but sometimes true!).  Keep the footy to yourself by using a Bluetooth wireless headset to make sure nothing gets in the way of you and the game.  Bluetooth comes on all LX9/LE8/LE7/PK7 and PK9 range of LG TVs.

For more great viewing tips, LG’s launched a quest to find the UK’s greatest match-day hosts – the Home Entertainment Hero competition – which invites sporting fans up and down the country to share their tips and tricks on being the ultimate host.  In the spirit of this summer of sport, fans are encouraged to submit their videos and photos to prove why they deserve the title of the nation’s ultimate host – with a full home entertainment system up for grabs.  To enter the competition or get some help on creating the perfect match set up and viewing experience, go to http://www.lg.com/uk/hero/index.jsp .
