London UK, 10th November 2007 – D-Link today raised the stakes in the market for wireless media players with the UK launch of the D-Link DSM-510 Wireless MediaLounge player, which has been optimised for the Intel® Viiv™ processor. The DSM-510 is a powerful, yet compact media player capable of delivering video, digital photos, music and more to televisions and home entertainment centres from computers and storage devices over a home network via a wired or 802.11g/b wireless connection. The new media player also aids in the streaming of high-definition (HD) video through a wired network connection enabling users to experience digital media like never before.

The DSM-510 has received Intel® Viiv™ technology verification, which tests the compatibility of networked media devices with Intel Viiv technology-based PCs. The MediaLounge is also DivX Home Theatre Certified, allowing users to play DivX encoded movies (DivX format compressed video files) with exceptionally high visual quality. Using the Intel Viiv technology verified DSM-510, consumers will enjoy maximum enjoyment from their digital home entertainment network, including access to the Intel® Viiv™ Zone, which offers a growing selection of on-demand, Internet-delivered premium content, including movies, music videos, TV shows, and information services. While performance is optimised for users with Intel Viiv technology-based PCs, the DSM-510 is compatible with computers running Windows® XP or 2000.

The DSM-510 features a convenient remote control and easy-to-navigate TV user interface for quick hassle-free browsing of digital content and works with standard Windows XP computers through Microsoft's Windows Media Connect and other Universal Plug and Play (UpnP) media servers. D-Link’s DHP-301 PowerLine HD adapters are a perfect solution, utilising a home’s electrical wiring to deliver high-definition streams from your wireless router to your DSM-510.

In addition to its built-in connectors for High-Definition Multimedia Interface and Composite Audio and Video outputs, the DSM-510 features Optical Digital Audio with support for 5.1 Channel Audio. With HTTP as the media streaming protocol, supported video formats are MPEG-1/2/4, WMV9, XVID with MP3 or PCM, AVI (MPEG-4 layer only) and DVR-MS. Audio formats are MP3, WAV Audio, WMA and AIFF (PCM only) and Ogg Vorbis. Image formats supported are JPEG and JPEG2000, TIFF 9 (RGB only), non-compressed BMP, PNG and GIF. Also included are a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet controller, 802.11g wireless networking support and a USB 2.0 port for additional connectivity.

Commenting in the introduction of the latest D-Link media player, Andrew Mulholland, UK Marketing Manager, D-Link, said: "The DSM-510 is an extremely powerful, compact and feature-rich media player with an intuitive user interface that bridges together computers, storage devices and the Internet with the home entertainment centre for a heightened multimedia experience," He added: "Passing Intel Viiv technology verification and DivX certification underscores our commitment to bring next-generation wireless solutions to market for consumers to enjoy seamless sharing and instant access to digital media and entertainment from anywhere inside their home."
