Back to business
Business Class was launched by AMD over a year ago as a platform for business desktops, with the stated aim of helping OEMs to build PCs that are more reliable and have a lower total cost of ownership.
There isn't too much in the way of unique technology in all of this, as far as we can tell, which is why this latest announcement has come with zero fanfare from AMD. But there are some special pieces of technology and commitments from AMD that are worth noting.
This looks like the first refresh for a year, so it incorporates all the new CPUs, GPUs and chipsets AMD has launched in the intervening time. Here are some of the other highlights:
- 24-month planned life-cycle on select CPUs from initial availability, incorporating virtualisation, and supporting industry standards like Desktop and Mobile Architecture for System Hardware (DASH) 1.1 for out-of-band manageability and TPM 1.2 for security.
- Now offers AMD DAS 1.0 capabilities in configurations for desktop PCs. AMD DAS is a suite of technologies that enable virtualisation and standards-based essential manageability and security.
- Energy efficient features, including Cool‘n'Quiet 2.0 technology designed to help enable reduced system noise and long PC life.
AMD managed to get a quote out of Alan Reed, VP and GM of desktop PCs at HP: "Starting with today's newly announced HP Compaq 6005 Pro Business PC, based on AMD Business Class technology, we're confident that our collaboration with AMD will help us meet the value and performance demands of businesses around the world," he said.
