Keep on buying
In short, Google reckons "this technology has great potential to improve display advertising on the Web."
Google says the transaction, which is subject to various closing conditions, is expected to close this quarter, but didn't disclose the financial terms of the deal.
It's unlikely, however, that the purchase pulled on Google's purse strings too significantly. Recently, when announcing its Q3 earnings, Google's executives noted that the dark days of economic doom were rapidly becoming history and said the firm was ready to start an aggressive acquisition strategy.
Other recent Google purchases include a video-compression technology firm called On2 Technologies and a VoIP provider, Gizmo5. You have to wonder how long Google can keep buying Internet advertising companies before competition authorities take an interest, but maybe a by-product of the Microsoft/Yahoo deal has been to take the heat off Google in this area.
