Business as usual

ZeniMax Media, the parent company of games publisher Bethesda Softworks has completed the acquisition of games studio id Software.

The acquisition brings legendary id games franchises such as Doom and Quake into the same stable as the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series.

In id Software, ZeniMax gets the creator of some of the most popular first person shooter (FPS) games ever made as well as the id Tech engine, which powers many of them.

Founder John Carmack will continue in charge of id Software. "This puts id Software in a wonderful position going forward," he said. "We will be bigger and stronger, as we recruit the best talent to help us build the landmark games of the future. As trite as it may be for me to say that I am extremely pleased and excited about this deal, I am."

Robert Altman, founder, chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media said: "Our intention is to make sure id Software will continue to do what they do best - make AAA games. Our role will be to provide publisher support through Bethesda Softworks and give id Software the resources it needs to grow and expand."

Let's hope Bethesda get to use the next gen engine from id to power the next installment in the Elder Scrolls Series. :)

Only if they can keep the drop in modifications that GameBryo currently allow - brilliant system. Not to mention that draw distance and outdoor rendering :)
Perhaps id's ability to polish a game will ‘rub off’ on Bethesda. Starting with character animations hopefully, Bethesda seems to be happy with animations and object quality from the original unreal era engine.
