It's interesting that Mulloy mentioned the antitrust case because it probably wouldn't do Intel's chances of settling the case favourably any harm to have some legal bargaining chips to exchange for concessions from AMD.

If Intel's concerns about the cross licensing agreement prove well founded, it would potentially be in the position to prevent TFC using the intellectual property within the agreement even if it does get formed. We imagine AMD would be keen to persuade Intel not to excercise that right.

Ultimately, however, for this legal horse-trading to happen it would require AMD to accept Intel's request for a meeting, which to date it has yet to do.

To conclude, we asked Mulloy what would happen if AMD failed to respond to Intel's request. "We expect that they will," he said.

Update 08:00 9th February 2009 - Drew Prairie of AMD's corporate communications team contacted us with the following clarification on the matter of Intel's request to meet with AMD: "We have accepted the request and have every intention of meeting with Intel."
