Internet everywhere
A common theme during our conversation with Drew and, as you would expect, from ARM in general, is the concept of ‘Internet everywhere'.
By that ARM means it wants to see Internet connectivity, not only on the full spectrum of ‘smart' devices, but in all manner of other consumer electronics and in geographies that you wouldn't necessarily expect to have access to the latest technologies, like developing countries.
For this to happen there needs to be a processor design available that is cheap and low-power enough to stick in pretty much anything, and ARM reckons the Cortex A5 is it.
"The Cortex-A5 processor signals a significant acceleration in the future of internet connectivity," said Eric Schorn, VP of marketing at ARM's processor division. "The Cortex-A5 processor scales from ultra low cost handsets and lifestyle internet devices all the way to consumer, embedded, and industrial devices - anything that can be connected to the internet. We are truly delivering the Internet everywhere."
Told you.
