An independent PC retailer has been nominated for the ‘Micro employer of the year award’ at the 2008 Apprenticeship Awards, which are hosted by the body in charge of apprenticeships in England: the Learning and Skills Council.
Lincoln based Forum computers was founded by Matthew Wooley, who also recently contributed an open letter to Microsoft on HEXUS.channel. He’s clearly a big fan of apprenticeships. “Apprenticeships are key to my employees’ career development as well as the ongoing success of my business,” said Woolley. “It is essential my staff do not stand still, but continue to learn and develop their skills”
Now in their fifth year the awards have been designed to recognise and reward both employers and apprentices who are successfully using apprenticeships to improve their business performance and tackle skills shortages, whose contribution to the workplace has exceeded their employers’ expectations and resulted in measurable benefits or who have overcome difficulties to succeed through their apprenticeship, apparently.
Woolley even made it into the Sun newspaper on page 51 today. If you don’t get the currant bun you can find out more about the Apprenticeship Awards here.
