BEIJING, CHINA - October 9, 2002 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today
announced the hire of Karen Guo as corporate vice president and general manager
of AMD China. Guo represents a significant strategic addition for AMD, and will

benefit of the Chinese people."

"I am pleased to be joining a company so committed to
serving the growing needs of the Chinese market," said Guo. "As a Chinese
citizen, I am passionate about helping China become a true leader in the global
IT marketplace. AMD has demonstrated a strong willingness to work with China as
a true partner in the country's overall effort to ensure that cutting-edge,
customer-centric and cost-effective silicon-based devices are available to the
Chinese populace. My goal is to ensure that every Chinese citizen is able to
reap the benefits of silicon-based technology in their homes, phones, PDAs and
automobiles."

Before joining AMD, Guo was responsible for leading
Motorola's technology efforts in China, serving as director of Motorola China's

established Motorola's PowerPC joint venture with Nanjing Panda Co., created
joint research labs in key Chinese universities, and launched efforts around
semiconductor material research, reliability modeling and Java based TCAD tools
