Both execs pointed towards the GR 585 as an illustration of what AMD brings to the table. It's a 2U rack, but can accommodate four processors, meaning you can have up to 48 cores in one unit - four times as many as Intel can offer in this form factor.
Lastly, we got a heads-up that a lower-end new Opteron range will be launching soon - the 4000 series. Patla's Opteron roadmap revealed these will be available for as little as $99 and Degliesposti had already said, in favour of AMD: "Nobody wants to pay over $1,000 for a CPU."
To be frank, it's been a while since AMD had much to crow about in the CPU space, but shooting up to 12 cores while Intel is still on six is a good effort. AMD currently only has around ten percent market share in the server space - down from more like 20 before Barcelona.
As ever, it's easy to give good PowerPoint, but what will be telling is if the Opteron 6100 series helps AMD claw back some of that market share.
