HEXUS.sharewatch: Qualcomm replaces Yahoo! on our list

Last week we wrote an analysis of the growing market for PC/telco convergent products. In it, we argued that Intel's biggest competitor is now Qualcomm, as both companies are vying to become the dominant supplier of chips to the smartphone and mobile Internet device markets.

For that reason we now think that Qualcomm, historically just viewed in the context of the telco market, must now be considered a significant player in the PC market, both in its own right and as a barometer of the ARM ecosystem. We have therefore added Qualcomm to our list.

At the same time, we think it's time to lose Yahoo!. The main reason it was added was to track its share price while it looked like Microsoft might acquire it last year. That move was blocked by the Yahoo! board and shareholders lost out big-time, but that was a while ago and there has been little excitement since.

Shares were pretty stable last week. Even Intel's strategic relationship with mobile handset maker seems to have had little effect on the price of its stock. AMD has stabilised a bit, but is still falling after a bad previous week, and the indices were pretty flat.
