The UK itself saw a year on year fall of 8.4 percent in PC sales. While this isn't good, it compares favourably to many other European countries, especially Eastern Europe. "There was still quite strong growth in Q4 08 but that didn't carry over into Q1 09," said Morvay. "The UK declined by 8.4 percent in Q1. That's not so bad, compared to some places like Russia and Ukraine."
The table below shows year on year PC growth trends across EMEA. The anomalous figure for Portugal seems to be a result of a state sponsored initiative. "Portugal is just exceptional, but a lot of its 71 percent growth came as a result of a state subsidised scheme to get netbooks, including the Intel Classmate, into the hands of students," said Morvay.
