Microhoo and channelly stuff
The Microhoo saga has dragged on far too long to still be considered dramatic, but at least it’s coming to a conclusion soon, with its 1st August shareholder meeting being where Carl Icahn’s proxy fight to replace the current board will be concluded.
The build up to that meeting will be littered with public proclamations from Yahoo!, where the board remains less than keen about being turfed out and has belatedly said it will now accept $33 a share for the whole company, and Icahn who wants to flog Yahoo! to Microsoft himself if and when he gets his hands on it.
On the channelly side of things, Ingram Micro announced that it was going to pass on the full cost of shipping to its customers, where previously it had absorbed at least some of the cost itself. We interviewed Ingram’s Euro boss Jay Forbes about this and will be bringing you that soon.
Elsewhere, Symantec was having to do a bit of fire fighting in the channel as reports emerged that it was going to cut resellers out of deals with its biggest customers. Meanwhile Gigabyte announced that it would be joining the netbook party in September.
The week ended on a high note as market researcher IDC revealed to HEXUS.channel that the UK PC market had grown by a whopping 26 percent, year-on-year, in the second quarter. Slowdown? Hah!
