The Exterior - Side and Rear
In profile, you can see that its quite a long unit from front to back, especially with the PSU housing protruding from the back, J-Lo-esque.If you check out the close-up shot, free of major resize artifacts, you can see the deep effect of the paint finish. The vents cutout near the bottom are obviously for cooling and the front of the facia is bordered by a chrome-effect strip. You also get your first glimpse of the removable Wi-Fi antenna attached to the top of the unit, like a small shark's fin.
The rear of the unit is dominated by the PSU protrusion.
You can see you've got two expansion slots on the right side, with the regular port cluster at the bottom, as you'll find it in the vast majority of other SFF chassis designs. Here's the port cluster up close.
PS/2 keyboard and mouse are first, on the left, followed by a solitary serial port. An externally-facing SATA port sits on top of a single Gigabit Ethernet port, which in turn sits on top of a further four USB2.0 ports, giving you a total for them of eight. 5.1 surround sound speaker output ports are last, on the right-hand side.
The external SATA connector is unique to the ZMAXdp, compared to its SFF peers. IWill forsee the connection of small near-line disk enclosures running from that port, but as you'll see later on, using it makes the internal disk configuration a little limited.
There's also detail to look at on the top and bottom of the unit.
