3DMark 2001SE, SS2, C4

Gaming benchmarks were run with all three XPCs sporting discrete Radeon 9800 Pro cards. Both the ST61G4 (ATI Radeon 9100 IGP) and SB62G2 (Intel Springdale i865G) were also re-run with onboard graphics.

This is what we had expected after reviewing the ScienceMark 2.0 findings. Run with the 9800 Pro, the ST61G4 falls around 800 marks behind the comparison Intel-based XPC. Most of that loss is incurred in the bandwidth tests such as lobby and car. However, with a far better spec. for onboard graphics that are reminiscent of a Radeon 9100 / 9200 card, the ST61G4 almost doubles the Intel Extreme Graphics 2's score. That's in no small part helped by the former being able to run the DX8 nature test. Finally, decent O/B video on an Intel SFF PC. The 5769-mark O/B score couldn't be published due to Futuremark throwing a wobbly. The 17513's breakdown can be found here. It's rare to see a 3.2GHz P4 and dual-channel motherboard not hit 100FPS in the high lobby test.

Serious Sam 2 corroborates 3DMark's findings. That boils down to sub-i865G performance with a discrete high-end card and comparatively excellent onboard results.

Comanche 4 runs smoothly in parts on the integrated Radeon video. If we had to forego the AGP slot for some bizarre reason, we'd choose the ST61G4. The problem is that we don't have to. The SB62G2 could be paired with a £35 AGP card and it emulate the Radeon Shuttle's gaming performance. It would also be faster in non-3D tests.
