Onboard Graphics Performance

The on board graphics provides very good 2D performance. We were able to run the windows display at 1280x1024 32bit colour with very good clarity. The windows menus were quick to respond creating an extremely useable working environment.

Turning our attention to 3D performance, we were interested to see how the MegaPC images would cope with both movie playback and game play. Before we look at each in more detail let's just summarise the general 3D performance by looking at 3DMark 2001 SE.

Having run the tests using the on board graphics with 64MB of shared memory, we repeated them with an added Sapphire Radeon 9700 Pro AGP graphics card using ATI's CATALYST 3.1 drivers.

The results show a similar story to the Sandra tests. The Intel chipset and graphics show a marked increase in performance when compared to the SIS chips. The MegaPC showed significantly better performance from the on board graphics set compared to the Shuttle. This gap narrowed considerably using the Radeon.
