Review: MSI MegaPC

We compared the MegaPC 651 against two other machines that have passed though our labs. Firstly the Shuttle SS51G because it uses the same chip set. Secondly we wanted to compare performance against an equivalent Intel chipset. For this we chose the Chang-Fun E-Cube, which uses the Intel 845GE chipset with Intel on board graphics.

The same components were used in each machine.

For a general guide to the performance of the machines we first took a short look at the performance results from SiSoft Sandra.

The results demonstrate what we feared about MSI's choosing the SIS 651 chipset. The Intel 845GE circuitry is able to achieve far better utilisation of our components. It was interesting to note that although the Shuttle and the MegaPC have the same backbone, MSI have obviously managed to extract a little more performance than Shuttle.
