Benchmark: PCMark 7
The PCMark Vantage results fell short of expectations, but PCMark 7 paints a more positive picture. This benchmark is a new addition to our suite and it uses a mixture of 4K-aligned and unaligned I/O. In the 'Starting Applications' test, only 45 per cent of all reads and writes are 4K aligned, whereas in the gaming test the number of 4K-aligned reads and writes is bumped up to 86 per cent.
As per OCZ's explanation, the Vertex 4 does take a performance hit when working in a misaligned scenario. The 256GB and 512GB drives are slightly off the pace in the Starting Applications test, but they're up there with the quickest in the Gaming benchmark. It isn't a clean sweep, but the Vertex 4 drives score well in PCMark 7's Overall Storage Score.
