Drives armed with a SandForce controller are renowned for their ability to handle numerous 4KB input/output operations per second, but whilst G.Skill's 40GB Phoenix Pro is impressive, it doesn't quite meet the exacting standards of larger drives based around the same technology.
Differences in firmware could be the cause, but the lower capacity may also have an impact on performance.
