Benchmarks |
CrystalDiskMark |
CrystalDiskMark provides various storage benchmarks, but we're interested in the returned 32-thread 4K performance numbers to see how well the drives fare when tasked with numerous small transfers. |
DiskBench |
A small program that accurately measures the time taken to read and write folders on to the same drive. |
PCMark 8 |
PCMark 8's storage test is a collection of workloads that isolate the performance of the PC's storage system. |
Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood |
An alternative storage benchmark used to gauge game load time. |
Notes
We're faced with a bit of a predicament in that our Intel-based test platform doesn't offer support for PCIe Gen 4. That's something we're hoping to remedy in the very near future, but as luck would have it, we just so happened to have a £7,000 AMD Ryzen-based gaming rig sitting around. Should numbers between different platforms compared? Ideally not, but we've decided to go with it to give readers an idea of what to expect between a number of popular PCIe Gen 3 drives on Intel Z370 and the Seagate PCIe Gen 4 on AMD X570.
