G.Skill's F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE

A while ago, just as G.Skill were about to start selling modules in the UK via a few distributors, a friend got them in touch with me with a view to evaluating their F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE 1GB dual-channel kit. The modules were duly dispatched and I've had them for quite a while, without doing much in the way of reviewing them. So my apologies to Joany and everyone else at G.Skill for the delay. They've since started selling a wide range of module kits in this country, from the mundane to the crazy (DDR600 sticks). The F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE was the in-demand kit at the time, being based on TCCD ICs with an apparently very impressive PCB that allowed good timings at high memory frequency.

They're supplied in a basic blister pack and the modules have no heatspreaders on them, just a couple of stickers to let you know what you're running. The SPD table is programmed with two speeds: DDR400 at 2-2-2-5 and DDR550 at 2.5-3-3-7. Nominal voltage is 2.75 for both speeds, just like the Corsair XL.

Don't be concerned about the lack of heatsinks on the modules; they give you little, if any, benefit at the voltage range the TCCD can stomach. The DRAMs simply don't get hot enough for them to matter much.

Summary

TCCD laid bare, with a supposedly excellent PCB to allow for much higher than the DDR550 it's rated to, while still happily allowing it to run at DDR400 2-2-2-5. Pricing in the UK is £199 including VAT at CPU City.
