What's it look like?

The REVOLUTION 85+ is surrounded by powder-coated finish that's far removed from other PSUs in the Enermax range. It gives the supply a rough feel, and the chassis stays cool to the touch, even after a few hours' load.

The fan-guard has a bevelled edge that helps keep the underlying fan pretty quiet. Under full load the supply's quieter than practically all others we've tested, and under 50 per cent load - spinning at around 750rpm - it's practically silent.

Enermax also has a feature that keeps it spinning for up to one minute once the PSU is switched off. The company says it keeps the components cooler and extends longevity. Prima facie, the idea makes sense.

Once strung out the cables measure some 45cm from the end of the PSU. That should be long enough for most chassis.

For what it's worth, an LED next to the power switch alternates between three colours to denote current status. Green intimates normal operation, orange for standby mode, and red for when the supply's overcurrent protection has kicked in. Kind of difficult to see on the back, though.

The modular-runs connect to the left-hand side of the supply. They're forward-looking insofar as they cater for 12P connectors, should they be required for future components, most probably graphics cards.
