Eels Installation

I was also asked to look at the X-trac Eels. These are similar to mouseskatz. It is a small strip of tape that is applied to the bottom of the feet of your mouse to help the mouse glide better across your mouse pad. What you get in your package of X-trac Eels is a strip of tape 12cm long. I found this was enough to do one mouse, and nearly another one. You are also given a sheet of paper with clear instructions and diagrams on how to install your Eels.

Installing the Eels was very simple but also highly annoying. First of all you need to measure the tape to the size of the mouse feet. I had done this one foot at a time, to save making any errors. Once cut and the mouse feet had been cleaned I attempted to peel the blue backing away from the clear tape. As the installation guide mentioned this is a job for someone who has masses of patience. The tape is amazingly strong and this results in having to use small tweezers to try and pull the backing away from the tape. After about 5 minutes of some bad language I eventually got the tape free from the blue backing paper. It was all plain sailing from now on. Simply applying the tape to the feet of the mouse and firmly pushing down to make sure the tape has a good hold of the mouse feet.

Once all feet have been done you can then relax and enjoy the pleasure of the mouse gliding over the mouse pad. I immediately noticed a hell of a difference of how smoothly the mouse moves. Let’s hope these X-trac Eels have a long lifetime since I don’t fancy spending another 20 minutes swearing at some tape to be able to make my mouse glide smoothly.
