Brightness and contrast
By default the AOC monitor delivers a strong showing in terms of contrast ratio which fades slightly after calibration.
Notably, AOC's factory settings include a cool colour temperature and despite calibrating the display to the normal colour temperature things remained decisively cool.
The uniformity of brightness across the AOC panel isn't the best we've seen but the variance averages out to seven per cent, which is considered respectable for a budget QHD display.
Input latency
The AOC Q2778VQE has an adequate input latency of 27ms, or good enough for a smooth gaming experience. But for a TN panel the result is a little disappointing, so gamers who are very sensitive to input lag may wish to pursue alternatives.
Power consumption
At default settings, which includes an eye-baking brightness of 90 per cent, the AOC monitor consumes around 40 watts. A little calibration brings the Q2778VQE into the more familiar 25-watt territory that is comparable to other 27in monitors.
