Benchmarks IV
As you may already know, a demo of Unreal Tournament was released a few days ago. Not only is a fantastic game to play, but it features a comprehensive benchmark mode. The benchmark consists of two flybys and 2 bot matches. The average of both the parts are taken to give a final two benchmark scores. To not stress the graphics card too heavily, I've benchmarked at 800x600.
The higher scores represent the average of the flybys and the lower scores show the average of the two benchmarked bot matches. From preliminary investigation, the flyby is card-limited and the bot matches are CPU / subsystem limited. Both platforms put up a decent showing.
We can't leave without a quick visit to Quake 3. Run at 512 fastest to test pure CPU / memory power.
Performance conclusion
The recurring theme in our set of benchmarks is that running memory at DDR400 is something of a futile exercise on a processor that uses a double-pumped FSB and sits on a 133FSB. You're better off trying to run the system memory at aggressive timings and at DDR333 mode. It's plain to see that the processor cannot fully make use of the memory provided by DDR33, let alone the potential bandwidth on offer from DDR400.
