Benchmarks III
Another benchmark that relies heavily on the host processor and memory subsystem is Comanche 4. The DX8-compliant benchmark also requires masses of geometry information from the system. Benchmarked at 1024x768x32.The BD7II, powered by the 2.26GHz NW B, and with system memory running at 178MHz, pulls out a fairly substantial lead in this benchmark, the largest we've seen thus far. Still, neither system is slow.
We can't let it go without subjecting it to a bit of Quake 3 action. I'll only conduct 512 Fastest to give you yet another idea into system performance.
P4s have historically held a lead in this benchmark. The 2.26, aided by some super-fast memory, is able to outdistance the MSI and Athlon XP combination. The results do start to converge as the test becomes more card limited at higher resolutions.
Incidentally, I re-ran the benchmark with sound enabled. The MSI's score dropped from 297.8fps to 239, quite a substantial drop in performance.
The benchmarks produced by the test motherboard and CPU are more than respectable. The most important point for me was the overall stability of the system. Nothing untoward occurred during testing and benchmarking.
Let's wrap it all up now as we move on to our final thoughts on the MSI KT3 Ultra2-BR
