Benchmarks: Gaming
Pairing a quad-core Intel Skylake processor with DDR4 memory, a fast SSD and GeForce GTX 980M graphics is a familiar recipe for high-end laptop performance. It's no surprise that the X5S v5 Camo slots in near the top of the 3DMark chart.
But how does the synthetic result translate to today's latest games? We've benchmarked a crop of titles and starting at a 1080p resolution reveals enough power to maintain in excess of 60 frames per second with medium-to-high quality settings.
Increasing the resolution reveals chinks in the GTX 980M armour. The games remain playable at a QHD resolution, but they lose that silky-smooth feeling.
Stepping-up to 4K, the laptop's native resolution, highlights the fact that the GTX 980M simply isn't powerful enough to push this many pixels with decent quality settings in modern games. Laptop manufacturers will be hoping that a next-generation part will be able to deliver closer to 60fps at a 3,840x2,160 resolution.
