Benchmarks: Gaming
Here are the numbers that really set the two Aero machines apart. According to 3DMark Time Spy, moving from GTX 1060 in the Aero 15 to GTX 1070 Max-Q in the Aero 15X results in a performance increase of nearly 30 per cent. A meaningful gain for the sake of an extra Ā£100, and the meatier GPU doesn't appear to pose a threat to stability, as evidenced by a healthy stress test score of 97.8 per cent.
Comparable in-game numbers for the Aero 15 are available by clicking here, and though the Aero 15X is tested on newer drivers, the performance gain is nonetheless significant. At maximum quality settings, average framerate in Deus Ex climbs from 41 to 51, Hitman rises from 62 to 89, while Rise of the Tomb Raider jumps up from 61 to 83. All things considered, GTX 1070 Max-Q is comfortably quicker than GTX 1060 and roughly 10 per cent behind a full-fat GTX 1070.
A meaningful upgrade, then? Perhaps, though you could argue that GTX 1060 is sufficient for a 1080p display. Whether or not the pricier GTX 1070 Max-Q is worthwhile at this resolution is a case of personal preference.
