Far Cry
Our next title requires no introduction - Far Cry is still one of the most popular first-person shooters of the day, and remains a useful title for benchmarking as well thanks to Crytek's efforts to add new functionality to the game engine with each patch. Here we will be using version 1.3 of the game, and thus utilising the games Shader Model 3.0 path for both boards. The timedemo used here is based around the games 'Research' level, and all in-game options were at their highest (Very High) setting for testing.
At 1024x768, we can see the two cards neck and neck, as the game is CPU limited at this resolution. Once we move to the higher resolutions however, the A400 shows a definitive advantage - The Research level is one of the more shader-heavy levels in the game, so it would seem safe to assume that this difference is mainly down to the A400 Ultra's higher fillrate.
The performance difference remains largely the same when using anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, with both cards still giving admirable performance across the board.
