Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory performance

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory shows the '2600 PRO in a favourable light. We note, however, that the Radeon HD 2600 GPUs struggle when loaded up with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering, as, again, evinced in our first look.

HDR performance continues to be reasonable for a ~£65 card, though.

Brief summary

Paying the extra £15 or so to 'upgrade' from a possible Radeon HD 2400 XT to Sapphire's Radeon HD 2600 PRO is a good idea, if your budget permits and gaming is the primary reason for purchase. Taking 1280x1024 as the base resolution the 2600 PRO is twice as fast as the RV610-powered XT. That performance differential is broadly replicated in Quake 4 and Far Cry, too.
