High-resolution benchmarks
We're running the same games but have increased the rendering hurt by raising the resolution and image quality. The reason behind doing so lies with the £160+ price tag currently attached to the XFX GeForce 8600 GTS XXX Edition. We'd be remiss in not showing you what an extra £30 will buy you, and we take a look at performance at a 24in panel-friendly 1920x1200.

What we're seeing is the XFX card provides around 50 per cent of the performance of the leading card that, remember, costs around 20 per cent more.
Tellingly, and reinforcing the architectural differences between GeForce 8800 GTS 320 and GeForce 8600 GTS, the performance drop-off is significant enough to rule out this overclocked G84 card from being considered as an adequate performer at 1920x1200. Our problem, then, is with its high price and the inability to match cards' performance that cost just a little more.
