D3D Rightmark and 3DMark03's Fillrate Test

D3D Rightmark

D3D Rightmark

The new driver doesn't fix X700 XT's odd fillrate performance in Rightmark. It places the XT, in terms of pixel shader power, neck and neck with the 6600 GT. Its vertex-led performance is strong, by virtue of having the same compliment of units. clocked highly, as R420-based products like X800 XT and PRO.

Let's double check multi-texture fillrate with 3DMark03.

3DMark03's Fillrate Test

3DMark03 Fillrate Test

The XT is 16% better than the PRO in terms of fillrate as measured by 3DMark03, the difference not tallying with the simple engine clock difference. Plotting that as a percentage of possible peak texel throughput gives the following graph.

That 16% difference in performance shows up on the efficiency graph. That points to memory bus-related performance issues, either in terms of raw bandwidth, or controller settings. It's possible ATI have spent more time tweaking the XT, than the PRO, on this first run of RV410 hardware.
