The CATIA V6 software is built by Dassault Systemes and is used for developing products through computer-aided design. Nvidia's latest Quadro M6000 has a distinct advantage in this regard.
PTC's Creo is 2D and 3D CAD software also used for engineering modelling. It's clear to see that Nvidia has another comfortable advantage here.
The energy test is representative of a typical volume-rendering application in the seismic and oil and gas fields. Similar to medical imaging such as MRI or CT, geophysical surveys generate image slices through the subsurface that are built into a 3D grid. Volume rendering provides a 2D projection of this 3D volumetric grid for further analysis and interpretation.
What's abundantly clear is that Nvidia's architecture - hardware and software - is much better tuned for the application.
Maya rarely needs an introduction. Developed by Autodesk, it's the de rigueur animation software. W9100's single-precision throughput is solid, but Nvidia remains well ahead with its best workstation GPU.
