Far Cry, Painkiller
Far Cry
Vendor: UBI Soft - (Website)API: DirectX 9.0
Pixel Shader Version Supported: Mix PS1.1, PS1.4, PS2.0 with PS2.0 forced
Far Cry, run at the highest visual settings, has a nasty habit of making graphics cards squirm under intense rendering pressure. Speaking from games-playing experience, the 36FPS is a flattering average. The demo doesn't playback gunfire and lacks large enemy movement. One could almost halve the quoted FPS for a real game situation. Put simply, the game's quality settings need to be toned down for any midrange card.
Painkiller
Vendor: People Can Fly - (Website)API: DX9.0
Pixel Shader Version Supported: Mix, unknown versions
The Painkiller benchmark is easier on our trio of cards. ABIT's 9600 XT stays commendably close to the higher-clocked FX5700 Ultra.
