General DX8 and DX9 performance are evaluated using Futuremark's benchmark programs, 3DMark2001 SE and 3DMark03, both patched to the latest released version.

The Go5700 is able to open up quite a lead over the MR9600, most likely due to the lack of hardware early Z cull in the ATI GPU. The Go5700, as measured by Rightmark, has a fillrate advantage that's hard to ignore.

The Go5700 generally produces a correct image in the 3DMark2001 SE tests with the 56.56 drivers.

Testing at the native 1680x1050 resolution shows that both GPUs get the same level of performance as 1024x768 with 4AA and 8AF, at the widescreen resolution. With less than half the pixels of the widescreen resolution, the rest of the performance is eaten up by the IQ settings used.

1680x1050 enjoys higher performance than 1024x768 + 4AA + 8AF on both GPUs. With geometry antialiasing not needed at the higher resolution, the application of anistropic filtering (at whatever cost) would produce excellent image quality.

The Go5700 is again usefully quicker than MR9600 in 3DMark03, highlighting the MR9600's lack of hardware early Z cull.
