Image quality

Before we take a look at the numbers performance from the trio, let's spend a short time looking at image quality. We're using ATI's Catalyst 4.1 and NVIDIA's ForceWare 53.03 driver sets.

Looking at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 first. 4x AA and 8x AF have been employed. We appreciate that the larger screenshots have undergone JPEG compression. There's still hardly any difference between NVIDIA's and ATI's 3D output.

- NVIDIA FX 5950 Ultra 256MB

And now the same for 3DMark03. FSAA and AF were set via the benchmark's control panel.

- NVIDIA FX 5950 Ultra 256MB

Splinter Cell with 8x Anisotropic Filtering only

- Crucial 9800 Pro 256MB

- NVIDIA FX 5950 Ultra 256MB

We reckon that image quality is pretty similar on both cards with image enhancement applied. If you can't immediately differentiate two static images, the chances of doing so in-game are remote.
