3DMark
3DMark is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.
Remember that the Gigabyte R9 280X runs at a peak speed of 1,100MHz core and 6,000MHz memory. The comparison Asus model has frequencies of 1,070MHz and 6,400MHz memory. Gigabyte therefore wins on core but loses in terms of available memory bandwidth. The upshot is performance that's near-on identical to the Asus in 3DMark.
