Overclocking tests
The Triplex REDai has shown itself to be an above average 9600 Pro card. Not altogether surprising considering its faster stock clocks. Using Rage3D Tweak 3.9, we attempted to see how much headroom our sample card had with respect to both core and memory speeds. Please bear in mind that individual cards' headroom will vary greatly. Further, the sample's cooler had to be re-attached and AS3 applied between the VPU and cooler for the card to function correctly in the first instance.
Anyway, after raising the respective clocks a few MHz at a time and subjecting the card to three consecutive 3DMark 2001SE Nature benchmarks with 4x AA and 8x AF applied, this sample hit the giddy heights of 487MHz core (up from 420MHz) and 706MHz memory (up from 680MHz). That's a little lower than the 535MHz core achieved by the Tyan 9600 Pro, though.
3DMark 2001SE, Quake III, and UT2003 were re-benchmarked with the new, overclocked settings, highlighted in red on the graphs below. Benchmarks were conducted at 1024x768x32 4x AA / 8x AF - settings that would most likely be used by gamers running this card.
A healthy ~ 800-mark boost returned by 3DMark.
Top of the tree in Quake III now. We would have expected a little more in the way of gains, however.
Another healthy boost in UT2003, approaching the 100FPS barrier. Performance for free is always welcome.
